Before Nordgate.

The vendor sold annual licenses into Europe, the Gulf, and Southeast Asia, but fraud rings had learned to test stolen cards against its self-serve checkout. Chargebacks were climbing past 1.4% of volume, and two acquirers had put the account on a watchlist.

The payments team was three engineers deep into building risk rules by hand. Every new market meant a new fraud model, a new dispute workflow, and another late-night page when a card network flagged the account.
